New England Revolution has announced plans for a ground-breaking new training facility for its first team and academy system, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
The complex, which is to be built close to the Gillette Stadium – the home of National Football League (NFL) team the New England Patriots, as well as the Revolution – is set to cost US$35 million.
The 30,000 foot facility will include four pitches, with co-owner Jonathan Kraft describing the announcement as "a big milestone in the history of the Revolution." He added: "We're going to have a place where our core roster is going to able to develop to their full potential."
The club hopes that the shell of the new complex will be ready before the first snow of the winter, which would then allow construction of the interior to continue, with the ultimate goal of having the building ready for use by August 2019.
Revolution officials told reporters at the launch that the new facility would not impact the team's continued search for a soccer stadium in the Greater Boston area. Kraft added: "We hope this is the first of two great groundbreakings."
