New Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has likened the Cherries to former club Athletic Bilbao.

Iraola left Rayo Vallecano this summer for Bournemouth.

He told Marca: "Yes, I see many similarities, especially in the style of play, with what we have always understood as Athletic's game, playing direct, going a lot from the outside, a lot of centres, a lot of second play, high pace and there are similar things there.

"Although lately in La Liga I see a trend that is more to play with full-backs on the inside, teams that start with 3 plus 2, probably influenced by what Pep is doing at Manchester City and Mikel at Arsenal.

"There are more and more teams playing that more positional game, but hey, they won't find us there. We will go another way."

Iraola added: "The first impression has been very good, considering that we are one of the most humble clubs in the Premier, but even so the standard is very high. So at the level of means to train and possibilities of growth as a club, we are very happy."
