New AC Milan investment could fund move for Chelsea striker Lukaku

AC Milan are reportedly interested in Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium international has struggled since returning to Chelsea for a second spell in the summer.

Burdened with a £97.5m transfer fee, Lukaku has managed just five Premier League goals this season and no goals in league or Champions League in this calendar year.

Goalsays Milan are showing interest in the 28-year-old given his success with rivals Inter Milan prior to last summer's switch.

However, there are significant financial hurdles for Milan to make before completing a deal, and indeed those hurdles exist for practically all teams outside England.

This mainly comes down to the large fee required and Lukaku's £325,000-a-week wages.

The report states however that any new owners of Chelsea could be prepared to cut their losses and offload Lukaku in a cheaper deal.

On the other hand, Milan's owners Elliot Management are in takeover talks with Bahrain-based investment manager Investcorp.

The mooted Milan owners could look to make a big splash in the market by signing a high-profile name such as Lukaku.

Lukaku's former club Inter have also been linked with returning for the man who led them to the 2020/21 Serie A title.
