Nevin: McTominay should be Man Utd starter for Ten Hag

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin says Scott McTominay should be a Manchester United starter.

Nevin insists McTominay's form with Scotland should give United manager Erik ten Hag pause for thought.

He told BBC Sport: "He started his career as an attacking midfielder and that's the position he sees himself as.

"When he plays for Manchester United, he's kind of one of those dogged midfield players that does the ugly stuff, sometimes a wee bit more defensive.

"And you think 'hey guys, you're training with him every day - can't you see what he's capable of doing?'

"And of course at the weekend he comes on and scores a couple for Manchester United late on.

"It is no surprise to those of us in Scotland who know that if you give him his favoured position, more attacking, he is very, very hard to stop.

"He's been special and if I was Manchester United manager right now, I would be saying to myself, I would get him in the team first because his work-rate is phenomenal."
