Neville praises ex-Man Utd teammate Rooney after DC United incident

Manchester United legend and current DC United boss Wayne Rooney has received praise from former England team-mate Phil Neville.

The two are both managing in the United States at present, with Neville in charge at David Beckham-owned Inter Miami.

A game between both sides was recently interrupted when DC United forward Taxi Fountas was accused of racial abuse towards Inter defender Damion Lowe.

Rooney spoke with the referee and quickly subbed off Fountas.

"There was a racist comment that was unacceptable," said Neville post-game.

"A word was used that I think is unacceptable in society. I think it's the worst word in the world.

"I must give massive, massive respect to Wayne Rooney for dealing with it in the way that he did.

"I have always known him as a class act and today he went up in my estimation more than he has ever done, more than any goal he has ever scored."
