Mourinho wants Ferdinand back at Man Utd

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Rio Ferdinand to join his Manchester United coaching staff.

The Portuguese was confirmed as United's new manager on Friday and is now looking to restructure in a bid to return the club to its former glories.

According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho is eyeing former defender Ferdinand, who is currently undergoing his coaching license.

Trusted assistant Rui Faria will come with Mourinho but he wants to have United people heavily involved during his tenure and is expected to extend an invitation to 37-year-old Ferdinand who spent 12 years at Old Trafford during his glittering playing career.

Doubts remain over the Red Devils future of Ryan Giggs, who served as assistant under Louis van Gaal, and it is understood that Mourinho has alternative plans in place in case the Welsh great opts to depart the club with whom he has a 29-year relationship.
