Matias Almeyda is being linked with Monterrey.
The Argentine's future as coach of the San Jose Earthquakes is in doubt in the US.
However, should he be forced out after the Quakes' MLS playoff failure, a return to Liga MX Monterrey could be on.
Monterrey coach Antonio Mohamed is under pressure and could be forced out in the coming days - with TUDN reporting Almeyda is in line to replace him.
Mohamed said over the weekend: "Here the most important thing is the institution, we will see with the board what is best for everyone. I'm happy at the club, but there are always situations that hurt. I am the maximum one responsible."
