Monk concerned as Swansea remain in relegation danger

Swansea City caretaker manager Garry Monk admits his side has some work to do before they can breathe a sigh of relief this season.

The Swans lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea on Sunday to sit just three points clear of the relegation zone with four fixtures remaining.

Demba Ba's 68th-minute goal proved the difference in the end, condemning Swansea to a second straight loss, and suggesting to Monk that they are in dire need of some vital points.

"We're not safe, we're clearly not safe and we're in desperate need of points," he told Sky Sports.

"But I said to the players at the end not to walk out of the changing rooms disappointed after what they've given me today, and what they've given the fans, who were magnificent by the way.

"It was a real lift and we needed a reaction from Hull (1-0 loss last week). We didn't get the result we wanted, or the points we probably deserved, but if we take that attitude and desire into the last four games I'm pretty sure we'll be fine."

Next Saturday, the Swans take on ninth-placed Newcastle United at St James' Park with the Magpies on the back of a four-game losing streak.
