Middlesbrough are said to be eyeing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips in a loan deal.
The 26-year-old has been linked with an exit from the Anfield club all summer long.
However, Phillips is still with the Reds, with The Athletic stating that a late loan may be an option.
Middlesbrough, managed by Manchester United legend Michael Carrick, want to reinforce their squad after a poor start to the season.
Phillips could be the ideal player to slot into Carrick's system at the Riverside club.
While Liverpool would prefer a straight sale, they are aware that it is late in the window.
