McClaren, van der Gaag poised to join ten Hag as Man Utd assistants

Manchester Untied are closing in on deals for coaches Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.

The duo are set to form part of Erik ten Hag's new-look backroom staff for next season and beyond.

Van der Gaag is the current assistant to ten Hag at Ajax, while McClaren worked with the Dutchman at FC Twente.

McClaren also has history with United, having served as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant from 1999 to 2001.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the duo's contracts are close to being resolved, and they will almost certainly form part of ten Hag's staff.

Speaking on social media, he said: "Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren will be part of new Man United coaching staff, confirmed.

"Full agreement at final stages and set to be signed with both of them."
