Matip must accept new Liverpool role to stay

The future of Liverpool veteran Joel Matip rests entirely on how much he wants to play.

That is the view of source Football Insider, who state that Matip may earn a new deal at Anfield.

The experienced centre-half is one who manager Jurgen Klopp would prefer to retain.

However, Matip must be willing to have a back-up role in the coming years to earn that contract.

He is in the final 12 months of his deal at present, with the club set to enter discussions with him in the coming months about a renewal.

Matip was asked about moving from Liverpool this summer, but stated a few months ago that he wanted to stay for at least one more season.
