Manchester United are prepared to buy big in January - for the right player.

The Daily Mail says United are not expecting a big January transfer window – but will pounce if a player on their hit list becomes available.

Reinforcements are clearly needed – although officials do not believe that the right players will be available when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Instead, they have a list of targets they feel are within reach next summer. However, should a player on that list suddenly become available, funds are in place for the Norwegian to make a move.

United, currently in seventh and 18 points behind leaders Liverpool, believe January is a 'tough' time to do business and their recruitment programme is aimed at when the window opens following the conclusion of the season.
