Manchester United have triggered the one-year option in Nemanja Matic's contract.
Matic was out of contract this summer but his performances in recent months - with Paul Pogba out injured for much of the campaign and Scott McTominay sidelined for several weeks - have earned him the new deal.
The Serbia international, 31, looked to be heading out of Old Trafford this summer, but has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround, his form helping get United back into contention for a Champions League spot until the season was suspended because of the escalating coronavirus.
Matic joined United from Chelsea in a £35million deal in July 2017 and has since made 109 appearances, scoring four goals.
The deal keeps him at Old Trafford until June 2021.
