Man Utd Treble winner Yorke: The reason why Ronaldo left; it was a time bomb

Manchester United Treble winner Dwight Yorke has laid out why Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United and moved to Al Nassr.

Yorke is now working in Australia as Macarthur head coach.

"What Cristiano did didn't surprise me," Yorke told The National. "I had a conversation with him before coming to Australia, when I spent a ten-day period of observation at Manchester United, where I had behind-the-scenes access. I was lucky that he gave me 30 minutes of his time to speak. I knew there was someone there who was not happy with what was going on at the club.

"He expressed it very openly and honestly in my opinion. He was clearly unhappy.

"He felt that the club was not evolving the way he wanted. I felt that, if that did not change, something would happen. So, when that all came out, I realized that it was already a real time bomb, ready to explode.

"I know there is a person there who is truly passionate about Manchester United, who wanted to take the club back to the top. But he clearly felt that the only way he could do that was for him to be the leader, respected as he should, because without him, last season, United would not have been anywhere near where they were. I think he felt that he is not given enough credit, that there is a lot of criticism in his direction. He got to the point where he said enough is enough. He felt that the club was not going in the direction he wanted. He wanted to lead and he wasn't given that opportunity. And it exploded.

"Everyone is talking about Saudi Arabia. Saudi football is on the world map because of him. He will certainly create his own legacy there and will continue to be successful."
