Manchester United are watching Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Daily Star says De Jong is one of Ajax's hottest young talents and United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly a keen admirer of the Dutch star.
And with Barcelona pulling back from their interest, United are firming as a favourite for the midfielder.
nited have already sent out scouts to watch the midfielder in Holland's 2-1 Nations League loss to France in Paris at the beginning of September.
If United were to make a move for De Jong they would be expected to open the coffers and pay a fee of around £50m for the player, as Tottenham had a bid of £45m rejected in the summer.
It is expected Mourinho will try and use the good relations which exists between Ajax and United to his benefit.
The two clubs have shown in the summer they can work through a transfer, with Daley Blind returning to Ajax.
