Man Utd's Fletcher confident of Scotland's Euro qualification

Darren Fletcher is confident that Scotland will be 'fine' during their Euro2016 qualifying campaign.

The Manchester United midfielder started in Scotland's narrow 2-1 loss to World Cup winners Germany in Dortmund on Sunday in their first qualifier and feels that his side's performance could be a catalyst for a successful campaign ahead of the continental championship in France in two years' time.

"We went there and showed we can compete and if we take that performance into other games then I am sure we will be fine," said Fletcher.

"We can't be disheartened. We knew that would be the most difficult game in the group so let's try to get some points on the board going forward.

"We changed the formation a little bit at half-time. Germany tired and we made a few chances.

"We believed in ourselves a bit more. You are always worried about attacking and leaving gaps but I thought the boys did fantastically well and we played some good stuff in the second half.

"We knew it was going to be difficult but it was hard to take because there were spells when we played well and created some really good chances."

World Cup hero Thomas Muller scored twice either side of Ikechi Anya's equaliser as Die Mannschaft edged the Scots in a close battle at the Westfalenstadion.
