Manchester United plan to sign Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen after the World Cup.
The Mirror says United are poised to seal the £10million capture of Vermaelen as they address the double defensive loss of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Vermaelen has fallen behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as a first-choice central defender at Arsenal and is said to be keen for a fresh challenge.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and United were hoping to land him for a cut-price fee of around £6m, but Arsenal are understood to be holding out for at least £10m.
