Manchester United could sit out any auction with Liverpool for Benfica star Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguay international is a top target for United, though Reds chief Julian Ward has been in talks with Benfica for at least fortnight.
It's reported Liverpool are willing to pay a club record €100m for Nunez.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News says United are reluctant to get drawn into a bidding war with Liverpool for the player.
United have made signings in midfield and attack their priority this summer and Nunez fits the bill as a versatile young forward, who can play either out wide or as a central striker.
However, the prospect of battling Liverpool in a bidding war won't be considered at Old Trafford.
