Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and his family were guests of US President Donald Trump for the White House Christmas party.

Rooney has just completed his first season in MLS with DC United.

The Mirror reports the invite was made due to Trump's football-mad son, Barron.

The 12-year-old previously played for DC United's youth teams and has posed with some of the team's stars at a White House Easter party last year.

Barron is said to excel at playing football at his private school and is often seen in his Arsenal strip practising on the lawn near the Oval Office.
