Manchester United goalkeeping coach Chris Woods believes David de Gea can become a club legend.

Woods followed David Moyes to United from Everton last summer.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "It was a massive move for United to go for a 20-year-old when they did, especially when the club have had goalkeeper greats like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar who were very experienced keepers. Obviously David was replacing Van der Sar directly but it shows you the faith they had in him.

"He can become one of the best. He really has done fantastic. He has all the elements to be one of the best like the former United keepers I mentioned.

"It has been a huge thing for David come to England and to United. His first season was difficult apparently but he has grown through that.

"David has reacted well to the early flak he suffered from some critics.

"Keepers have to have broad shoulders because it can overwhelm and affect you if you do make mistakes. It is only natural as a keeper you will make mistakes but to come through that and keep performing at such a high level is fantastic."
