Manchester United centre half Harry Maguire has been urged to consider leaving the club.

Maguire has been stripped of the club captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag ahead of the new season.

No longer first choice at United, Maguire is one who the club would be happy to sell.

Former Red Devil Gary Pallister told DAZN Bet: "He's been terrific for England, he had a great couple of years for United when he joined, but I think the media spotlight has probably hindered his career at Manchester United over the last year or so.

“When he came back from the Euro's, it looked to me like he had rushed back from an injury and that also had a real effect on him.

"You have to say it has taken a toll on him as well. As captain of the club he has lost his place and it doesn't look like he is going to get ahead of Varane or Martinez at this moment in time.

“Maguire is kind of feeding on the scraps at the moment, so if it was me I would look to leave. I don't know Harry or the situation, but I imagine it will be very difficult for Gareth Southgate to keep picking him for England.

"Even though he has stayed faithful to him through all his struggles, it is a personal decision for Harry to make now about whether or not he can get back into the team and get the fans back on his side.

“He is a good centre-half, you don't get into the Team of the Tournament at European Championships for nothing.

"I feel for him because I was there when I first joined Manchester United from Middlesbrough and it is tough when it feels like everyone is gunning for you and there is no place to hide.

“Fortunately, I had some good experienced pros alongside me in the dressing room and a strong manager in Sir Alex to help me through that. I'm sure the lads are all behind him, but any player wants to be playing games."
