Man Utd coach McShane to take key Ireland role

Manchester United coach Paul McShane is ready to take on a role with the Republic of Ireland.

The 37-year-old will not be leaving his job as United's lead academy coach with the Under-15s, per the Manchester Evening News.

McShane, who has an UEFA A Licence and is in the Football Association of Ireland's UEFA Pro Licence course, will work with the Republic's Under-21 side.

His specific role is not clear, but the ex-defender will be linking up with the team next week.

The Republic of Ireland's U21s are set to play against Turkey and San Marino during the international break.

McShane is following in the footsteps of ex-Red Devil John O'Shea, who is with the Republic's senior setup.
