Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed Jonny Evans will remain with their preseason squad.

The Northern Irish veteran surprisingly earned a short term deal with United this month.

He played in a friendly along with several youngsters against Wrexham, along with a game against Lyon.

“We need the numbers in the coming days in training," said the Dutch coach about Evans.

“As you see, Fred is not here and also [Anthony] Elanga went back.

“We need the numbers for proper training to hit our targets and that's the reason they are here."
