Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed Harry Maguire is still a valuable squad member.
The England centre half was stripped of the club captaincy during preseason by Ten Hag.
Bruno Fernandes is now United's club captain, having led out the team for most of last season when Maguire was not a regular starter.
Asked about Maguire, Ten Hag stated that remains part of his plans, telling reporters: “Harry's very important for this squad, for this team.
“And, you know, in his role as center-back, we have four center-backs. I talked about consistency and we know we can't do it with 11 players and so I'm happy we have four very good center-backs.
“And we will need them, and he has to fight for his place, as he did last year. He has a high potential so I'm sure he will do it, he will fight for his place and then it's up to him."
