Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hopes of two midfield signings in January.

The Manchester Evening News says Mourinho ideally wants to sign a winger and a central midfielder, amid interest in 20-year-old Bordeaux forward Malcom and Borussia Dortmund duo Christian Pulisic and Julian Weigl.

United have also shortlisted Napoli holding midfielder Jorginho as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, who could retire at the end of the season.

United sources intimated last month it was unlikely they would make any additions in the new year but could be active offloading players in an 'opportunistic market', having obtained £38million from Everton and Lyon for Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis a year ago.

Mourinho said, "I don't like the January market just to buy, that no, but if you can buy in January a player that you would buy in June or July and you have the chance to get him a few months before then great, but just that."
