Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes must approach the FA about ending his retirement if he wants to play for England again.
The Daily Mail says Scholes must tell the FA he wants to return to international duty before Fabio Capello will even consider him for England.
Capello is in no real rush to pursue Scholes, 35, who regretted not going to the World Cup after rejecting an invitation to go.
Yet Scholes, who retired six years ago, has since hinted the desire to play for England has subsided, although Wayne Rooney yesterday said he would love to see his club-mate in the national side again.
He said: "Paul would be one of our best players and I'd be delighted to see him back."
