Liverpool will face competition from Manchester City if they are to pull off a key midfield signing.

The Reds are in the running to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer.

However, they are facing serious competition for his signature from Manchester City, says the Liverpool Echo.

Their boss Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Mac Allister, who he believes can fill the shoes of Ilkay Gundogan.

If the German departs in the summer, Mac Allister would be an ideal signing to slot into their midfield.

The Reds could likely offer him more regular football, given City's depth of talent, but Mac Allister may prefer a move to the Citizens.
