Man City releases ex-Man Utd midfielder Hargreaves

Manchester City have released midfielder Owen Hargreaves after just one season with the English champions.

The 31-year old joined City after his Manchester United contract expired last summer but is already on his way out at Eastlands after making just four appearances.

Hargreaves, who has had his injury battles in the past, has been told he can leave the Etihad Stadium and will now begin his hunt for a new club.

Joining the former Bayern Munich man at the City exit gate is Israeli midfielder Gai Assulin, plus Academy graduates Ahmed Benali and Sean Tse.

"We thank all our departing players for their services to the club and we wish them the best for the future," read a club statement.
