World Cup winner Claude Makelele insists Paul Pogba still has much to offer Juventus.

The midfielder has barely played this season due to injury and again sparked controversy in victory at Atalanta after talking back to coach Max Allegri.

Makelele said, "He wasn't well physically and his mind was distracted by many things outside football. Under certain conditions it's difficult to give 100% for a player.

"Quality hardly comes out if your head doesn't respond and isn't free from thoughts.

"I hope he can have a carefree season, a focused year... like a true Pogba as he used to in the past. He was and remains an extraordinary, impressive footballer.

"But to perform at his best he must be at the top, feel good with his teammates and not have thoughts outside the pitch."
