Mainz sports director Rouven Schröder admits they could send loanee Taiwo Awonyini back to parent club Liverpool.

The Nigerian striker is on a season-long deal with Mainz, but Schroder says with their striker options well stocked, they could cut short Awonyini's deal.

"Of course we are looking for a competitive situation in all positions. We have very good strikers, and quite a large number," said Schröder.

"It may be that we still give up Taiwo."

Interestingly, it's emerged Mainz have been contacted by clubs across Europe about taking over Awonyini's loan this month.
