MacAnthony makes clear Peterborough sell-on clause for Toney

Brentford star Ivan Toney moving clubs in January will NOT benefit his old club Peterborough.

There had been speculation that if Toney was sold for a big sum to Arsenal or Chelsea, the Posh would benefit from a sell on clause in the contract that took Toney to Brentford in 2020.

However, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has denied that speculation.

"Complete misinformation. That even had me double checking the contract just now & the sell on clause. Nobody pays £10 million for a L1 signing & pays 30% sell on… nobody," he tweeted.

For their part, the Bees are hoping they can hold onto Toney in the winter window.

“Even if we had everyone available and we had won five in a row, or if we had a few players out and lost a few games, I would always look forward to Ivan coming back. He is needed as a character, a leader and a good player," their boss Thomas Frank said.

"Is he raring to go? Oh yeah, definitely. To get Ivan back will be like signing an unbelievably good Premier League striker that has proven (himself) in the Premier League. We are looking forward to that.

"I really, really would like to keep him. As a coach I'd love to have my best players with me all the time. From my perspective, I don't want to sell him because I think he's fantastic."
