Ben Hamer says he is up for the challenge after moving on a season-long loan to Nottingham Forest.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has joined the Championship club from Leicester City and is now eager to compete with Dorus de Vries for a starting spot at the City Ground.
Hamer told Forest Player HD: "The boss has made it clear it's not going to be plain sailing for me to get into his side because obviously we've got Dorus here. He's a very, very good goalkeeper and person.
"The manager said I have to work hard and prove my worth. Hopefully I can do that in training and if I can get in the team, perfect, that's why I wanted to come here.
"I've got a challenge on my hands. We both want to play so it's going to be an interesting couple of weeks ahead."
Former Charlton Athletic gloveman Hamer, who arrived at Leicester last summer, also revealed that he has settled well at Nottingham since his short move within the East Midlands.
Hamer added: "I've come across a few of the lads. Millsy, I was best man at his wedding last summer. Him and I are very good friends.
"I know Foxy as well, Henri Lansbury, Michail Antonio I was with at Reading.
"They've made me feel at home straightaway and it feels like I've been here a while already. That's always a nice way to settle in."
