Liverpool remain hopeful of Gomez playing again this season

Liverpool remain hopeful of Joe Gomez playing again this season.

The Daily Star says Gomez is facing a battle to play again this season after undergoing knee surgery yesterday morning.

But Liverpool have not given up hope of him featuring again in this campaign.

The Kop defender suffered the serious injury during training for England on Wednesday.

Gomez, 23, was preparing for the Three Lions' clash with the Republic of Ireland when he went down on the training pitch.

He underwent scans early this morning and the club have now confirmed he has undergone successful surgery on a tendon in his knee.

It is understood he has not suffered any ligament damage.

The Reds are not putting a timescale on his return but they are refusing to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
