Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says he has immense respect for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
The two have a relationship that goes back to their time on the same UEFA-accredited coaching course.
While Arteta stumbled early in his Arsenal managerial career, he is now firmly in charge of the club, as they are top of the Premier League.
"I loved every second," Lijnders told FourFourTwo about working with Arteta on the course.
"Mikel and I were in the same position at that time: him assisting Pep [Guardiola], me assisting Jurgen [Klopp]. Curiosity and respect – so many similarities.
"I'm happy for his route – his success – despite being competitors. I want people I respect to do well. Except against us!
"He is transforming the club [Arsenal]. There isn't a bigger compliment in football."
