Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was back in Rotterdam this week after winning the Champions League.
Wijnaldum was welcomed home at Cruyff Court in Schiemond, the neighborhood where he grew up.
"The fact that I see the people who have seen me grow up makes this extra special," he told De Telegraaf. “The children of the people I know now also play here. It is nice for me that the children from my old school are here.
"This is my own neighborhood, the place where I played football myself. It was hard going, in a difficult neighborhood, but that has shaped me to who I am. If such a place is named after me, it is special.
"How we got there (to the Champions League final), what you all had to do to win the Champions League. The lost final of the season before and that you were able to take the steps to still be able to win that cup. That is not for many players. I am blessed to have won it."
