Liverpool legend Aldridge blasts Kane, Ferdinand for calling to scrap season

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has hit out at those calling for the season to be abandoned.

Aldridge wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "It is impossible to just scrap it and start a fresh. Rio Ferdinand was one of the first ones to suggest it and now even Harry Kane has come out and said it too.

"The England captain believes it should be knocked on the head if the league isn't finished by June. Just what has the end of June got to do with it? Why that particular date?

"Why not the end of July? Or August? Or September? We're just seeing people having their own agenda and looking after their own best interests. People have their own ideas and I get it, but it needs finishing.

"We've all got our opinion, of course and that is Harry's but he's obviously thinking that the season starts again on August 10. That is not set in stone. I wish people would stop assuming that absolutely has to be the date the new season starts.

"They can start it any date they want, it makes no difference. It is not about next season, it is all about this one. Is Kane thinking that it would be an easier route back into the Champions League for Spurs if the season was voided? Maybe.

"August 10 does not have to be the date. It can be changed. September 10, October 10...it does not matter. Whenever the next season can go ahead, that is when it should. But this one needs sorting out first when it is safe."
