Liverpool legend Aldo: Lovren biggest disappointment

Liverpool legend John Aldridge rates Dejan Lovren as the biggest disappointment of the season.

Aldridge wrote in the Sunday World: "This manager bases his approach on an attacking philosophy that encourages players to pass the ball and play with freedom, but having full-backs bombing forward leaves you open at the back and guys like Dejan Lovren are not good enough when they are exposed to teams flying at them with menace.

"Lovren has been the biggest disappointment of the summer signings for me as, contrary to suggestions, not all of (Brendan) Rodgers buys in 2014 has been flops; Adam Lallana has done okay and young lads like Emre Can and Lazar Markovic could come good if we give them the time to prove themselves.

"Where Rodgers has failed has been his bid to shore up the defence with Lovren and what has turned out to be a calamitous move to sign Mario Balotelli."
