Liverpool are in 'advanced' talks with Nike over a new kit deal that they hope would 'eclipse' Manchester United's current UK£750 million (US$980 million) deal with Adidas, according to ESPN, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
That level of contract would mark the most valuable kit deal struck in Premier League history and draw closer to Barcelona's own record US$175 million a year contract with Nike.
Liverpool's current deal with American brand New Balance is worth UK£45 million (US$58 million) a year and is due to expire at the end of the 2019/20 season.
However, New Balance do have an option in the agreement with Liverpool to match any potential new offer and thus extend its current contract.
According to ESPN, Liverpool have also held discussions with Puma and Adidas regarding but are now deep into negotiations with Nike.
Results of market research commissioned by the club have reportedly informed managing director, Billy Hogan, that Liverpool are capable of commanding a deal at the same level, or even higher, than rivals United.
