Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold: We need to trust the ref

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his views on the video assistant referee debacle.

The club's vice-captain spoke to the press as they prepared for their Europa League clash against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday.

Liverpool were furious at a Luis Diaz goal being wrongly disallowed for offside during a 2-1 loss to Tottenham at the weekend in the Premier League.

“What happened (on Saturday)?" Trent joked with reporters.

“Yeah, we've spoken about things but our focus is on the game tomorrow now.

“Nothing we can do as players about what has gone. For us, it's past. We now focus on a different competition and a big, big three points for what we want to achieve.

“I wouldn't say (there are) trust issues (with VAR). I think decisions are decisions. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes they go against you.

“What happened on the weekend for us as players and a team is very disappointing and frustrating, but it's over. There is nothing we can do as players now. The game is gone.

“We've just got to put it past us and move forwards. VAR is a system in place. It's something that we can't control as players. We've got to put our trust in the referees and the officials that use it and hope that they get the decisions.

“At times they don't and at times they do. We just have to hope they get them right as often as possible."
