Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold: No-one can replace Milner

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is proud with his new vice-captaincy role.

Alexander-Arnold admits he feels a change in status.

"I feel that change," Alexander-Arnold told the Daily Mail. "Now, I embrace responsibility on and off the pitch. I see myself as a senior player now. I have played 250 or 300 games. I take responsibility for my actions and my role in the team but also how the team performs and how we set standards on and off the pitch.

"I play a role by making sure I drive standards every day. Losing (James) Milner, you can't replace that directly. It will take numerous people. Others have to step up. We need to make sure that the way he kept driving us forward is replaced.

"I am self-aware. I know I will never be a James Milner. I will never be that type of leader but the leadership qualities I do have, I need to show and they need to be seen and heard and used in a way that is effective for the team. I need to keep pushing forward to try to achieve the things I want to achieve.

"The ambition this season is to win the league. When I wake up here at the hotel at 7am and go out on a run, do triple sessions every day, that's the only thing on my mind. That is what is getting me through it.'
