Liverpool boss Klopp slams football calendar: We must talk about this

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blasted football's calendar this year.

Klopp has warned the Premier League they are burning out their brightest stars.

He insisted that he has to open up the debate on managing workload for players… even if the message will be attacked by many.

He said: “Somebody has to start this discussion. I spoke to Carlo Ancelotti. Italy has 20 teams as well and starts the season on August 24.

“Koulibaly, who played with Sadio (Mane) at the African Cup of Nations has four weeks holiday. He's not even close to coming back.

“I don't know why we start that early, when they come back later. Next year we have the European Championships and Copa America and we start the same week as this in England. I don't know why.

“The Premier League is such a wonderful product, everybody will watch it anyway. We don't need these two weeks where nobody in the whole world is playing, only the Premier League. It doesn't make sense."
