Liverpool boss Klopp: Elliott won't be super-sub for entire career

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is delighted with the progress of Harvey Elliott.

Ahead of facing Brentford on Saturday, Klopp was asked if Elliott had asked him about a starting place.

The manager said: "No, Harvey is not doing that, but we have had talks anyway. But with Harvey you forget how young he is. He's had injuries. Young players go through different moments in the early days of their career - flying, not flying, working hard - not him, but all young players in general. It's completely normal. Harvey has been incredibly important and I'm sure he knows that.

"Is it that he wishes to start every game? Yes. probably, but when he has come on he is brilliant, when he has started it's not the same. It's not a problem. He's young - it's not like for the rest of his career he'll be a 'supersub' or what the public call him.

"Learn the game, understand your game, use your skillset to get better and better. There is a lot he is doing well and there is more he can do. Of course there is a lot of potential in him. He is a joy to work with. It is absolutely exceptional how he has trained this week. You can see the best thing to inject in a player is confidence and that comes with goals and assists."
