Jesse Lingard is happy for former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney over his successful England farewell.

Lingard scored in the 3-0 win over the USA.

He said, “Sad he never won a trophy with England but it's a different generation now. Football changes, I guess.

“But just to have his presence around the squad these past few days has been great. He's brought his experience to the team. Everyone has looked up to him.

“He gave us advice and encouragement and reiterated he was very impressed with us in the summer. It put a spring in everyone's step and got everyone excited.

“For us to hear that off a legend like is excellent and makes us want to improve."
