Lille midfielder Angel Gomes in career best form: Fonseca important for me

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes admits he studies the game of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

The former Manchester United prospect is currently in career best form.

He said, "The most important thing for me is to play. It's important to be able to play in different positions, to be comfortable there. I work a lot in training, but I also watch a lot of videos, both of myself and of other players who play in those positions. I feel comfortable playing in those positions, playing in midfield or more attacking positions, I don't really have a preference as long as I play and enjoy myself.

"Who do I watch on video? Lots of different players. But for me, the best in this position is Bernardo Silva [Manchester City]. I look at his presence first, he looks a bit like me because of his size. And when he plays, he has an incredible presence.

"He's everywhere on the pitch, he's brave, he doesn't hide and he always puts himself forward available to his team. He is a great player, who deserves a lot of credit for what he does with and without the ball."

Gomes says Lille coach Paulo Fonseca has improved him this season: "We have changed tactically, with the new coach and new ideas. What he asks of the team suits me well. Obviously, also the confidence that the coach has given me.

"He also gave me an opportunity in positions that other managers didn't imagine for me because of my physique. It's about opportunities and confidence to be able to show what I'm capable of doing."
