Lewandowski cleared to face Espanyol as Barcelona coach Xavi says: We're surprised, but happy

Robert Lewandowski has been cleared to play for Barcelona in this weekend's derby against Espanyol.

The Pole had an appeal against a three-match ban rejected last week. However, Lewandowski will now be able to play against Espanyol on Saturday.

The surprise came this afternoon when the Blaugrana released a statement declaring the Polish striker "will be able to play tomorrow against Espanyol after the Madrid Contentious Court has granted a precautionary measure for the sanction imposed by the TAD".

It's unknown whether the temporary ruling will mean Lewandowski will also be available against Atlético Madrid and Getafe.

Later in the day, Barca coach Xavi reacted, stating: "We found out at the end of training. We have worked thinking that it was not. It is not best to find out so late. We are surprised by the timing, but happy. The sanction was unfair and disproportionate."
