Leicester midfielder Maddison on victory at Everton: We were great today

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison says the players were delighted after victory at Everton.

Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes struck for the 2-0 win.

Maddison said, "The result is what we are after at this stage when you don't have a good start but look at the performance today, from Wardy all the way through the 11 we were great today.

"We stifled them, brilliant, everything you want from an away performance was there today.

"How much you lot talk about being in the bottom three, I think that puts that to bed now.

"You obviously always want the second goal to put the game to bed. We have a fairly young group but one that has been together for a while now under the gaffer, so we are experienced now so at 1-0 you know you have to stay compact, but the second goal was a relief."

On whether he is hoping for an World Cup call-up, he added: "I would be lying if I said it was not in my mind because the World Cup is nearly here and that is the pinnacle. I always say the same answer, if I focus on my performance for Leicester hopefully that does catch the eye of the England manger, but that is out of my control."
