Leicester midfielder Maddison: First goal made difference for Man Utd

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison insists defeat at Manchester United could've been avoided.

The Foxes impressed in the first-half before being overrun 3-0.

Maddison said: "It could have been different. When you come to places like this, you've got to score when you're on top otherwise you get punished at this level. We dominated the first half, we had so many chances, so many sights at goal, so many entries into the final third where we just couldn't put it away. David De Gea makes a couple of good saves, couple of missed opportunities but we got punished. We got punished for not taking advantage of our positive start.

"We had so many chances to score, Harvey Barnes had a one on one, so did Kelechi Iheanacho, De Gea made some great saves, really top saves. Keeps them in the game and then Marcus Rashford gets one sniff and puts it in and that's the form he is in so we got punished with that first goal. That took it out of us and we didn't really recover.

"It really takes the wind out of you when they score two like that. It killed us in such quick succession we were 3-0 down and then you get punished when you don't score after being on top. That's the level at the top of the Premier League. Disappointing for us, probably not a 3-0 game.

"The positives are there. 3-0 is obviously disappointing but there were so many positives there, especially in the first half. Second half wasn't started quickly. There were positives to take from the first half and we will take them in to another big game next week."
