Leicester hero Young welcomes Campbell arrival

Former Leicester City striker Alan Young has welcomed their imminent deal for Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell.

Campbell looks set to sign from Cardiff after meeting City boss Nigel Pearson this week.

"I think Campbell would be a good addition," Young told the Leicester Mercury. "He has played a few games at the top level now and will bring a bit of experience to the squad.

"He did well at Manchester United but then had a few injury problems at Sunderland. But whenever he played he always seemed to be a handful.

"Last season with Cardiff, I think he got nine goals in 39 appearances but he scored a couple of really good goals. He looks a worker, a really willing runner and a guy who will try to get the ball back when he loses it.

"He might just bring that wee bit of know-how and quality that may rub off on the other strikers.

"If we do sign him, it will be interesting to see who the manager starts with in the first game.

"He will have Campbell, Chris Wood, Jamie Vardy and David Nugent, and don't forget he has Gary Taylor-Fletcher and young Tom Hopper, who is rated highly, to get a new contract. But have they got enough?

"It is going to be vitally important that we have enough firepower to deal with any injuries we may have and any suspensions. It is important we can fill those gaps with a bit of quality.

"I am not sure whether Campbell coming in will be the last of Nigel Pearson's business."
