Leicester boss Rodgers: Best yet to come from Vardy

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says the best is yet to come from Jamie Vardy.

The 32-year-old is closing in on 100 goals in the English top flight - he has 90 in 187 appearances - and is this season's top scorer with 10.

"His best years will be here and if you look at him now there are still a few more to go yet," said Rodgers. "He's still so sharp, clinical and fit - he'll be 33 in January but he looks after his body.

"Maybe not having played so much early on in his career is going to help him at the back end of his career.

"Then what he wants to do in a few years' time, you never know, he might want to play in another country, which he could do, but hopefully he's going to be here for many more years.

"I love the challenge of coming in and working with guys like Jamie who are 32 and people are questioning whether they're on the way downhill. You can see clearly he's still a brilliant striker.

"The one thing I know from Jamie Vardy is he's a team player. He loves the competition so he wouldn't have turned down Arsenal [because he was worried about not being the main man.

"He's the type of guy who's proven himself all his life, all his career, and he's proven himself to be one of the top strikers in Europe.

"There were a number of things: he was probably offered a good deal here, he and his family felt comfortable and stable here.

"This club is pure in its community spirit, that doesn't get carried away with all the stuff that the Premier League can bring and he's the type of guy who will have enjoyed that."
