Leckie wonder goal gives Adelaide ACL win over Pohang

Matthew Leckie has celebrated his Socceroo call-up with a fine individual goal to give Adelaide a crucial first up win in the ACL clash at home to Pohang Steelers. Adelaide United 1 (M.Leckie 45th) Pohang Steelers 0 Crowd: 8,374 at Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide Adelaide went into the match hopeful of a return to the sort of form which took it to the final of last year's ACL final, a feat which preceeded a disastrous A-League campaign, in which it finished on the bottom of the table.

Teenage striker Leckie, called up to the Socceroos for the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia, scored the only goal of the match in first half injury time to give his side a crucial half time lead against the reigning ACL champions.

Picking up the ball from within his own defensive half, Leckie went on a jinking run before poking the ball home from the edge of the six yard box to send the home fans into a frenzy.

Pohang were unable to breach the Adelaide defence as they went in search of an equaliser in the second half, whilst Adelaide could have added to the scoreline with guest player Sergio van Dyk and vice-captain Lucas Pantelis both having scoring opportunities.
